EKPHRASIS

My art work is a painting done in 1880 during the impressionism movement. There is only one figure in the painting that I picked for my ekphrasis. The subject is a woman, she is placed almost in the center of the painting but a little bit more to the left (your right). Her body is slightly facing the right side of the painting. She has light red patches on her forehead, cheeks and left hand. Her head is slightly turned to the right of the painting as she gazes down. Her brown eyes show a lot of emotion which makes me to believe the theme of the painting is :The Human Experience. Part of her brownish hair is visible in the front but is pulled back under a scarf. Her scarf is white with red stripes all over it. The scarf is knotted behind her right ear and falls behind her right ear and ends between her neck and shoulder. She has a black long sleeve shirt on that only exposes her face, left hand and neck. The shirt also has a great contrast with her skin. Her right hand is not seen because the painting was cropped. Her right arm is extended fully and her left hand is placed on her hip (skirt). She is also wearing a skirt that is cropped with her right hand near the wrist (right arm fully extended down). The background is made up of leaves from the tree(s) behind her. There are no braches seen except for one which is barely seen near the right side of her scarf (your left). Implied light was used on her right arm, right side of her skirt and for the light green leaves. A is created behind her from the implied light (dark green leaves).

Screen Print Response

Going from Art store to art store, looking for stretchers for something i've never done before was the simplest part of the project. Seting up the stretcher, putting on the emulsion and letting it to dry for a day so i can burn my image on it and choosing the right color to go on my T-shirt was the hard part.Going through these processes of art helped me to appreciate art in a whole in way. Artisis don't make art just becuase the have nothing else to do, they make art for various reasonse like; to express themselves, thier emotion, thier culture, the society,to entairtain people and so on. The process takes time and energy.Me going through this process makes me to stop and think of how the artist did the art work, how long it took him and what process did he go thorough, because the least i can do is to appriciate the art work and the artist.

Andy Warhol DvD

The Andy Warhol dvd helped me to understand an artists that i did not know before, but knew about some of his art works like the Marilyn Monroe print and the BMW M1 that he painted on. At the beginning of the movie i was amazed at how they made such a nice art work of Lincolns head that could be massed produced. Also at the beginning from the bits of information i piocked up once i found out he was dead i thought that he had died of Hiv/Aids, but the movie cleared that up later. In my opion the movie gave a good job in informing me about Andy Warhol and also influenced me to use him for my remix instead of Frida Kahlo.

Movement and Style

< Movement in art can be defined as the "tendency or style in art with a specific common philosophy or goal followed by a group of artist during a period of time".The "Mona Lisa" is a 16th century painting created by Learnodo de Vinci during the Renesisance period (Italian Renesisance) in Italy. The Italian Renesisance Movement was the movement when intrest in the culture of classical contiquity was renewed, spanning through the 14th and 16th century. The style used in the "Mona Lisa" is representational. The style representational means to present again the visible world in such a way that we recognize a likeness. He represented the sitter in the real world and used a naturalistic approach to do so. Naturalistic art closely resembles the forms it protrays.

The "Horse Head" from Guernica is a 20th century painiting created by Piccaso, in Spain during the modernism movement. "Modernism is a tendency rooted in the idea that the "traditional" forms of art, architecture, literature, religious faith, social organization and daily life had become outdated; therefore it was essential to sweep them aside". The style of the "Horse Head" is Abstract. Abstract is descritptive of art in which the forms of the visual world are purposefully simplified, fragmented, or otherwise distorted.Style referes to characteristic or group of characteristics that we recognize as constant, recurring,or coherent.

Activity # 5 Themes of Arts

As you look at the drawing of the "Horse Head" by Picasso the first theme that comes to mind is Art& Art. The theme Art and Art is based on elements and priciples of design, which is ment to be looked at just for enjoyment. The real theme of the painting is actually Politics and social order , which reflects the society. This is because the "Horse Head" is actually a sketch for the painting of Guernica which picasso used to condemn the violence that fascism unleashed against ordinary citizens in Guernica.
The 'Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci on the other hand uses the theme Looking inward: The Human Experience. This theme involves human emotion. The sitter in the painting exhibits this by showing a little emotion with the slight smeark and gaze in her eyes.
