Activity #2

In the first painting by Picassoo, counter lines are used to form an edge by using chiaroscuro(or value scale from white to black) against an all black canvas. Directional lines of the horse makes us look up and notice the all black backround. The implied light of the horse on a black canvasa produces a great contrast for this Monochromatic work. This painting doesn't have texture or Mass.

When looking at the "mona lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci the first thing i notice was the implied shape(pyramid) that suggested Mona Lisa. Implied light was used in this painting from what we see , light that seems its coming from the out side at the top of the painting but as we look down at the painting it gets darker and is black at the bottom almost like the value scale, this implies that shes in doors. The use of implied light tells us that she was indoors but infront of sunligth. The colors used are kind of blurry becuase of the atmospheric perspectiveused in the art work. The blurry green and blue as montains and vegetation. The ligth yellow(or brown) is used as the implied light and a ligth shade of the color is used for mona lisa's face and hands(which get darker because shes inside).

Itota,

Ok, the vocabulary is here - now let's tackle that organization.

1. name of artist, name of work, date, and medium.

2. thesis statement.

Example:

This essay is about design elements....Name the elements.

3. DEFINE THE TERMS!!! I have said this many times in class and in the power points.

4. What are directional lines?

5. The essay mentions the black background too many times.

6. If the artist is using chiaroscuro the drawing will most certainly have mass and it does have visual texture. Look at the marks on the surface of the horse that represent his hair!

7. Same for the "Mona Lisa"

8. Define terms, organize and be more clear.
